Stipends (2023-2024):
Vacation
Residents are allowed four weeks of vacation. During the intern year one of these weeks surrounds Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's. During second and third year, residents receive an additional 5 day break around these holidays (4 weeks + 5 days of vacation).
Family Leave
It is the policy of the University of Colorado School of Medicine Graduate Medical Education Committee to allow leave for maternity, paternity, adoption, illness of a close relative that requires the resident's care, or illness of the resident. Residents may be granted up to 12 calendar weeks of leave during a 12-month period for certain family and medical reasons. Leaves are granted by the Program Director. The Program Director will determine how much of the time will need to be made up in order to fulfill the specialty board certification and requirements. The complete leave policy is in the Graduate Medical Education Manual.
Paid Courses
Registration is paid for all PL-1s to be certified in PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and the Neonatal Resuscitation Program and to recertify as required during residency.
Meals
Breakfast and Lunch are provided at Children’s on every weekday for residents to come and eat together. Meal stipends are also provided to help cover meals on night and call shifts
Insurance
Medical, dental, and vision insurance are provided to residents and their family members at very affordable costs. The health insurance plan provides basic coverage with in- and out-of-network reimbursement options and a prescription drug card program. Preventive dental services are paid at 100% and have no deductible. Life and disability insurance are provided for all residents. Malpractice coverage is provided by the program for all residents.
Computer and Library Services
Computers for resident use and education are in the resident lounge and in all clinical care areas. Free literature searches are available to all residents at Children's Hospital Colorado and through the School of Medicine library. Residents have access to an enormous range of journals and other electronic services for clinical and educational use.
Memberships
Resident memberships for the American Academy of Pediatrics are paid. This includes access to the AAP educational website, Pedialink. Each year several free courses are made available to residents at this site. Residents also receive several pediatric journals, including Pediatrics and Pediatrics in Review free of charge.

- Each resident receives an annual education fund to cover the cost of books, meetings or other educational materials.
- Resident parking fees are paid for at all institutions.
- Iphones provided while on Children's Hospital Colorado inpatient rotations
- Massage chair (!) located in the residency lounge and bluetooth speakers in all work rooms
- Unlimited photocopying privileges are available in the Medical Education office.
- The resident lounge includes a kitchen with a refrigerator and microwave oven, as well as a television and computer workstations.
- A Colorado medical training license, required by the state during residency, is provided by the program.
